Check out the Open Streets Project. It’s a collaboration between our friends, the Alliance for Biking & Walking and The Street Plans Collaborative, with the goal of sharing information about open street events to increase the number, size, and frequency of these initiatives occurring across North America. OpenPlans was proud to work on the site for the Alliance.
The site showcases dozens of current initiatives in North America, allowing municipalities and advocacy organizations to share information and resources on their open streets initiatives as they evolve and expand. And most importantly, to get inspired by each other. There are over 70 current open street projects – NYC’s Car-free Central & Prospect Parks, LA’s CycLAvia, Denver’s Vivia Streets, Parkersburg Park Day are among the many. And it’s free, easy and open to add your city’s or organization’s events.
The Open Streets Project is also home to the Open Streets Guide featuring best practices from 67 initiatives across the continent, serving as a tool for cities looking to start or grow an open streets initiative. The Open Streets Guide offers support, ideas and best practices on putting together a successful, well-rounded open street event.
