Are you interested in using data to create better communities? Or enabling more people to know what’s going on with their local planning projects? Come be a Planning Fellow at OpenPlans!
We’re looking for fellows to work alongside us on two fascinating challenges this spring and summer: turning community input from Shareabouts into valuable information, and improving the state of planning information with Plan In A Box.
Community data fellow
Our crowdsourcing maps help cities and communities gather hundreds, thousands, and tens of thousands of data points, including locations, comments, support clicks, photos, and more. Work alongside us as we turn this incredible stream of data into information that helps decision makers.
We’re looking for an inquisitive intern with experience making maps, charts, and other insightful reports. You’ll have some data and analytics experience, and an interest in helping create better cities through technology. You are extremely comfortable with several of these: Excel/R/pandas, Tilemill/CartoDB/qgis, d3/interactive web charting, other tools.
Planning information fellow
Plan In A Box is our new tool for sharing project information. We’re just getting started (try the alpha here), and we have big plans to change the ecosystem of planning information. We’re looking for an intern to help us investigate the current state of participation opportunities and information sharing by municipalities about planning projects: what’s good, what’s not, why all those PDFs?
You’re interested in seeing more citizen-centric and participatory planning, and you understand the benefits of better information sharing and more opportunities for engagement. You’re highly capable at consuming and digesting information, and piecing together the bigger picture. You are a pithy, precise writer. You understand the challenges facing producers and consumers of information about planning projects, from TIPs to stoops.
